MONTHLY CLUB THEMES 2010/ 2011: CRESCENT BEACH PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

CRESCENT BEACH PHOTO CLUB MONTHLY THEMES:

CRESCENT BEACH PHOTO CLUB THEME FOR FEBRUARY 2012:

THEME TITLE: ON THE STREET:

Thank you to everyone who sent images for January Day----we will look forward

to viewing and selecting them on Feb. 15th-------I have picked a street photo theme this

month since we have a speaker on that subject this Wednesday Feb. 1st at the club-----

please note,  that it is also the Theme for the Fraser Valley Invitational this spring--------

we also want to keep in mind the black and white competition that is coming up

shortly-----maybe some of your street images will work well for the black and white

competition----you may also capture some street images at the upcoming Outing on Feb.

5th.

When shooting images that will be converted to black and white---many books and

workshops tell us that converting a colour image to b+w in a photoshop program is better

than taking the image in the black and white mode on your camera ( why----simply put,

because then you have the choice of two images----the original colour and b+w---there

are other reasons but it would take to long!!!!) ------but---there are a few things to keep

in mind when looking for an image that is to be converted:

Strong tones  and primary colours in your content will convert to stronger contrasts

Shapes and Patterns and Texture will always give more interest to an image when

converted

Lighting and contrast ---important for the representation of blacks and whites

Correct white balance for the subject matter-----

Remember that in a black and white image you might want a representation of blacks/

whites and grey tones to give a full spectrum of the tonal range.

I am attaching a link to a beautiful website -------the Photo Argus.com ----- this website

covers a whole range of subjects including Street Photography--- You will notice many are

in black and white but the colour images also really pop.

Have fun------Lynne Kelman (Themes Chair)
