from Ian Plant Photography
Don’t take snapshots—make art instead. My mission in life is to shout this from the rooftops. It’s too easy to get caught up in taking pictures, so force yourself to slow down and think carefully about how you can impose your personal artistic vision on the photo you are creating, rather than just capturing a record of your subject. A photographer must make a snap decision when the magic of the moment creates a perfect convergence of light, color, story, and composition, drawing upon practice and experience to know when the time is right to trigger the shutter. Only at the intersection of technical skill and creative vision can truly great photographic art emerge—so do your best to develop both!
